Chasseurs a Pied

As well as yesterday's Dragoons, I've also finished basing another half battalion of these Victrix Guard Chasseurs, the 2eme (the unit in the front). These minis were also painted by Shaun Duncan, who is going to paint another 36 minis for me in order to complete the 2 units.  I did a little detailing (piping and some brasswork, mostly), and based.

I also have a third painted Battalion from another eBay purchase, so a Brigade is looking on the cards...

  3. Thanks- I think they'll look really good when I have 3 or 4 units of twice the size, together.

I never intended to collect Garde, it just happened that way!

  4. Great blog! I can commiserate about collecting units for which you had no intention of getting. I swore I'd never do British Rifles but, as I had a stack of them as an 'add on' from an eBay auction I thought I'd try out a few. Of course 'a few' turned into a battalion with enough leftover to do a bushel in skirmish order! Spineless, totally spineless...

I like your paired skirmishers on round bases. I'll have to do some of those for my collection.

I also like how your Dragoons turned out. I have one 24-man unit done and another in the works to finish the brigade. Those bulky regiments look great on the tabletop.

    Best,

    Curt

  5. Hi Curt, have been enjoying your blog! Nice painting, too. What rules are you using with your big battalions?

Some more Dragoons arrived yesterday; the start of the 4th Regiment...

  6. Hi Simon. Thanks for visiting and for your kind words!

We've 'auditioned' a wide variety of rules over the past few years (Shako, Lasalle, Republic to Empire, Black Powder, In the Grand Manner, etc.). Like yourselves we liked the game Black Powder gave (and how relatively accessible it is) but found the rules a little clunky in places. So, with BP as a basis I decided to start monkeying around by inserting various rules mechanisms from other sets to give us a better feel. We call it 'Food for Powder'. I gave a quick overview of where we're going with this here:

Though there is still some ironing-out to be done the rules work pretty well. Cavalry especially has a more nuanced role in the game as their proximity causes many infantry formations to go into square or react with caution.

Looking forward to seeing some shots of those TWO(!) Dragoon brigades all ranked up!

    Best,

    Curt

  7. Hi Curt,

Sounds very interesting, I look forward to reading more of your rules...

I quite like Black Powder, but don't know the rules very well, yet. Am keen to have a crack with my as-yet-unblooded Naps in tne New Year. Also my mate has Lasalle, I know next to nothing about them, except I read and liked the OOBs.

    Cheers, Simon

  8. Man your army is growing very fast and they look great love the way you base your figures

  9. Thanks Kent- mostly expansion through buying, alas, rather than painting. Because this is a side interest for me, I don't have time to paint all (hardly any of!) the figures I need. But I do lavish some personal care on the basing.

    Cheers, Simon
